David often performs in the Canadian provinces of Alberta or British Columbia. He himself is lead vocalist, MC and drummer soloist. For evening performances in clubs, he will often assemble his band Domba and fill the stage with other drummers and musicians playing guitar, saxophone, other brass or keyboard. For conferences or public celebrations such as Canada Day, he may bring only local drummers.
It's client choice. David will ensure that the music and the show are matched to the audience.
"I love performing. Love the stage. Always have. But one night, something happened which was very special to me. It was in a large downtown theatre. The band and I were warming up for the rest of the show. The promoter was of African origin, like me. The power went down for 45 minutes. But my band and I play acoustic and we sing a capella, so I started playing and talking about Africa and what the music meant and all of that. And the audience stayed with me. Later, the African promoter said that for that day, I had become a "griot" - a word from my country describing someone who is a cross between an elder, a minstrel and an entertainer but someone who can interpret the culture of my continent of origin with 1.3 billion people and someone who can also interpret this world back to my former countrymen. And I was very pleased, because that's what I most want to be and to do. To unify with music as much as I can".
